I have 21 years of law enforcement experience, starting with the now defunct Augusta Police Department (APD), where I served for 6 years (11/2 years patrol and 41/2 years as a Violent Crimes Detective). During this time, I specialized in Child Abuse, Delinquent Juveniles, and other violent crimes (rapes, murders, aggravated assaults, etc.). I received 3 Police Officer of the Year awards from various civic organizations during my tenure with the APD.
After the city and county governments consolidated in 1996, I went over to Richmond County Sheriff's Office as a violent crimes investigator. During that same year, I joined the Waynesboro Police Department as the Assistant Police Chief. In 1998, I worked for the Burke County Sheriff's Office as an Investigative Sergeant specializing in violent crimes, particularly child abuse cases.
In 2001, I became an employee of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. I worked on patrol for a few months before transferring to the Criminal Investigations Division as a violent crimes investigator.
In 2002, I joined the CSRA Law Enforcement Training Center (then under the management of the Richmond County Board of Education) as the In-Service Training Coordinator, where I traveled the eastern part of Georgia offering training to certified peace officers. Later that year, the school was reconstructed and renamed the East Georgia Regional Police Academy, and I was appointed Assistant Director.
In 2002, I joined the District Attorney's Office (Augusta Judicial Circuit which includes Richmond, Burke, and Columbia Counties) as an investigator. I worked in the DA's Office until 2005, when I went back to the East Georgia Regional Police Academy as Director. I served as the Director for one year before rejoining the DA's Office where I stayed until 2008 when I accepted an instructor position with Ken Jones and Augusta Technical College Peace Officers Training Academy.
I have been a certified Police General and Firearms instructor since 1993. I am also a certified instructor in Defensive Tactics, EVOC, SFST, and ASP Baton training. I have an Associate of Applied Technology Degree in Criminal Justice from Augusta Technical College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organization Management from Voorhees College, and a Master of Education Degree (Instructional Technology) from American InterContinental University. In addition, I have 12 hours towards a Master of Criminal Justice Degree at Troy University.
I have been teaching part-time with Augusta Technical College as an adjunct instructor in the Criminal Justice program since 2006.
I am married to Shirleta Williams and we have one daughter together, Chandler Williams. Kiara Williams is my oldest daughter.

I am Alfonzo Williams, Chief of the Waynesboro Police Department. I joined the department in February 2011. Waynesboro, the Bird Dog Capital of the World, has 5800 residents whom we work to protect and serve. It is a pleasure to serve this beautiful and historic city. It is the mission of the Waynesboro Police Department to make this city a safer place to live, work, learn and visit.
